Cuddle
Most followers of Jesus that I talk with about intimacy with God have difficulty thinking of God as One in Whose presence we can be comfortable. Anxiety begins to rise when we think about being in God’s presence. We are much like the Israelites of the Exodus who told Moses, “You go up on the mountain and talk to God for us. We will stay here.” But it is in those times with God that we learn to hear His voice and understand His ways. It is in the times of talking freely with God that we become His friends: “Thus the LORD used to speak to Moses face to face, just as a man speaks to His friend.” [Ex 33:11.]
Only in closeness will we develop comfortableness with God. We must hear His call to come close to Him, “Draw near to Me and I will draw near to you,” is His encouragement. “I wanted to gather your children together, the way a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, and you were unwilling.” [Mt 23:37] reveals the heart of God to bring us close to Him and under His protection. Imagine that, through the Atonement that Jesus provided, God shows that He wants us to cuddle up next to Him. When we cuddle, He protects and loves. We were made to cuddle with God. “Come unto Me all who are weary and I will give you rest.”
