Never Forgotten

“You remembered!” are the words of a grateful heart when a friend or loved one expresses thoughtfulness over a special occasion or memory. Whether it’s a friend giving a card on a birthday, or a lover bringing flowers to commemorate a special day, or a husband making a date to mark an anniversary, or one saying, “I’m sorry” on the memory of a day of grieving: these are all ways of saying that you are not forgotten.

We like to be remembered. And we are comforted to know that our great God never forgets us. The evil one loves to tempt us to think that God has forgotten us, but He has not. “Master, don’t you care that we are perishing?” Yes, He cared. And He needed no reminder from His disciples to do so. Just because He was asleep in the boat, it didn’t mean that they were not on His mind. He knew their need and was meeting it, even though they thought He was unconcerned. It is good for us to remember that God neither slumbers nor sleeps [Ps 121:4] and that He never forgets us. Willie Nelson sings, “You were always on my mind,” but it’s even more true for our great God. We are always on His mind. I love listening to Willie sing that classic and it always evokes wonderful memories for me. But no memory is nearly as wonderful as the truth that I am never forgotten by My Heavenly Daddy. Never forgotten. We are always on His mind.
