Coming out of Slumber. . . The BIG confession

Well, it is happening. And the fruit will be evident. I'm coming out of slumber. More like a hibernation. And that would be ok, but I'm not a bear. . . just don't ask my boys about my behavior when they were younger! Maybe I was a bear and didn't know it.

No, the slumber I'm coming out of is a bad thing. It is the thing that is called "not keeping up with the good stuff." I've been faithfully writing for our church publications but haven't been taking the time to post the writings to the blog spot. And the weird thing is this: I love doing this. I love it when someone is encouraged by the notes from my journal of thinking about our Great God.

You would do well to ask, "Well then why haven't you been doing it? It's like cutting your own legs off." Thank you. You are right. Yes it is.

That is why I'm coming back from slumber land while I have any legs left at all with which to hobble in. It's kind of like what happens to me on those rare days when I "take a day off" from listening and talking with Jesus in His Word. I justify this by saying, "I'm just going to take a short break" and I find that I get broken when I take that kind of break. My best moments are moments that flow from being with Him. This is not true occasionally. It is true EVERY TIME.

Why do I get so stupid as to slumber away? It's like I never read the proverb "A little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to rest --  and your poverty will come in like a vagabond and your need like an armed man." [Pr 6:10] I'm sure you'd never visit slumber land.

But if you are tempted to do so, remember the admonition from our good friend from Seinfeld, George Costanza:  "I'm back baby. . . and I'm loving every minute of it!"

God is good, all the time. . . and HE neither slumbers nor sleeps. . . WAY COOL.
